Celebrating Black History Month
Welcome to a celebration of Black History, where I hope to Honor the Accomplishments of black heroes both known and obscure, Celebrate Present trailblazers and creators, and Inspire the Future for a society which can heal, grow, and recognize the need for inclusion and empowerment, regardless of race or ethnicity.
Why is it so important for all of us to celebrate black history? Well, there is value in acknowledging struggles and accomplishments, appreciating individual contributions to society, and ensuring fair representation. It is imperative that we gain an understanding of the past to shape our collective future.
In an effort to continue honoring, celebrating, and inspiring visionary black leaders and artists, i’ve identified 8 ways you can contribute to shaping our future by supporting the black community.
8 Ways to Continue Celebrating Black History (for more ideas, visit naacp.org)
- Support a Black business
- Read a book by a Black author
- Donate to an HBCU (historically black colleges and universities)
- Learn more about an unsung hero of Black history
- Support a Black creative
- Trace your family history
- Engage in healthy conversations about Black history
- Reject all forms of racism and prejudice
When we intentionally support communities within and outside of our individual racial identity, we can grow to appreciate other cultures and values. As you engage others in your community, please remember to do so in a healthy and safe manner.
The COVID-19 virus remains a menace in both black and global communities. While the COVID-19 Vaccination provides hope for an end to the pandemic and a return to normalcy, we must each make informed health decisions. Consider receiving the vaccine when medically cleared to do so, and when the vaccine is made available to you. In the meantime, please continue to practice good social and health etiquette techniques…Wear a Mask, Stay 6 Feet Apart, and Avoid Crowds. Remember to Wash Your Hands and Avoid Touching Your Face.
Visit cdc.gov for detailed information about the COVID-19 virus and the vaccine.
